History and the Figure of St Benedict
Founded by the Sabines as early as 1300 BC, Norcia later became a municipium under Rome. Monti Sibillini National Park
For centuries the Monti Sibillini spurned tales of fairies, necromancers and horrors of all kind in fantasy literature. These legends generally concerned two precise spots in the area, the Monte Sibilla and the Pilato lake. But this wild, untamed land, which has been the inspiration for many writers and painters, is today a popular tourist destination for many visitors who come here from all over the world to admire the unspoilt nature of the Parco Nazionale dei Monti Sibillini.
