This old country house has been completely restored and offers simple but comfortable hospitality for those in search of a relaxing and regenerating holiday. The Poggio del Sole Farmhouse Residence owes its name to its exceptional location, idyllically placed among the rolling Umbrian hills and surrounded by sunflower fields, woodland and arable cultivations. Poggio del Sole is within easy reach of San Gemini, one of Umbria’s loveliest Medieval towns that has been a member of the ‘Città Slow’ league of cities since 2000. With its rich supply of mineral water, known throughout the world, San Gemini offers a quiet lifestyle in contrast with the frantic pace imposed by the post-industrialised western world and globalisation. Among the town’s many sights there is the church of San Giovanni, the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo and the ancient churches of San Francesco and San Nicolò. The Poggio del Sole farmhouse residence offers five large double bedrooms, all finely furnished, with plenty of light, good views and each with its own independent bathroom. The rooms are named after flowers and plants: ROSA, PERVINCA, GINESTRA, CICLAMINO, and EDERA. Poggio del Sole also offers a separate guest house with its own private garden, panoramic terrace, kitchenette and air conditioning if required. The guest house is perfect for housing three and is open to pets. Its former use as a duck shed has prompted the management to name it DELLE PAPERE. The Poggio del Sole restaurant offers excellent home cooking and specialises in traditional Umbrian cuisine, with its home made pastas, grilled meat, lamb and seasonal vegetables – all garnished with the estate’s own extra virgin olive oil and washed down with the Poggio del Sole wine. The Poggio del Sole farmhouse
residence also boasts a beautiful swimming pool where guests can
relax and sunbathe while enjoying the view, which stretches beyond
San Gemini as far as Terni and Narni. On clear
days you can even see the snow-capped peak of Mount Terminillo. As well as touring the Medieval town of San Gemini, with its water springs, guests at Poggio del Sole who are interested in sightseeing will find plenty of attractions in the vicinity, including the remains of the Roman town of Carsulae, the fossilised forest at Dunarobba and the magnificent Marmore Waterfalls.
