The Well of St Patrick
The Pozzo di San Patrizio was built in 1527 following a commission from Antonio da Sangallo the Younger by Pope Clement VII. The well was intended to guarantee water to the city of Orvieto in the event of a siege.
E' 62 metres deep, the well's famous double staircase made up of 248 steps and 72 windows for light was designed so that the descending and ascending traffic of people with their mules would never meet.

May – June – July - August 9am-8pm.
