Bevagna - Neighbourhood of Bevagna

In the neighbourhood of Bevagna has to be mentioned the Santuario della Madonna delle Grazie, realised in 1583 on plans by Galeazzo Alessi, which contains several paintings, attributed to Fantino, and a Maestà on the main altar, which is considered to be miraculous.

From here , you may start a suggestive trip to the fortified villages of Gaglioli, Torre del Colle, an old feud of the Counts of Antignano, Cantalupo, Castelbuono, formerly a free commune, with nearby an aedicula with paintings by Giovanni di Corraduccio.

Near the crossing of Limigiano, another old village witnessed since 1058, stands the aedicula of Pian d’Arca, remembering the sermon St. Francis addressed to the birds.

Driving back towards Bevagna, you will get to the Convento dell’Annunziata of the 11th century which conserves a majolica altar piece, attributed to Santi Buglioni.

Nearby lies the Lago Aiso (or Abisso=abyss), which is formed by a Karst-phaenomenon similar to the springs of the Fonti del Clitunno. Its deep and chilly waters have ever since nourished phantastic folk-tales.
