Foligno - September 1st - 15th - Quintana Joust

Two weeks of celebrations that flood Foligno with tourists, starting with the Soprasanti fair on September 1st, a re-evocation of a 17th century market complete with workshops and tavernes for visitors.
The local taverns in the city's ten areas are open from September 2nd to 15th , vying with one another for the best period dishes prepared with extra virgin olive oil, truffles, lentils and wine. On Saturday 14th the historical parade takes place, in period costume. The joust itself takes place on Sunday 15th, on a track shaped like an 8. Each rider must charge his steed and slip the end of his metal lance into the rings hanging from the arms of the Quintana, an ancient wooden statue that represents a warrior.
