San Gemini - Our Four-Footed Friends on Holiday

Italy has a sad record of abandoned dogs whose owners, eager to escape the hot city life in favour of beaches and suntans, heartlessly turn their backs on what was once a fluffy little puppy. After all we can always get another one for the children to play with in the autumn. Perhaps you should try doing without, next time. Perhaps you should consider that abandoned dogs, faithfully waiting by the roadside until hunger gets the better of them, can cause lethal accidents. But if you do decide to get a dog and treat it humanly, the only solution used to be the "dog-sitter", someone that could take care of your four-footer until you returned home.

Things are improving in Italy nowadays, however, and a number of specialised kennels where dogs and cats live in a comfortable and friendly environment have sprung up all over the country.
