The 2012 edition of the Umbria Operetta Festival continues on February 9th at 9pm in the Teatro Morlacchi with the Teatro Musica company in their production of La contessa Maritza, by Emmerich Kàlmà. Probably the greatest post-War operetta box office success, La contessa Maritza won praise even from the great Arturo Toscanini, who admired the fine orchestration.

The series of lectures held by the Porta Santa Susanna cultural association continues on February 10th at 9pm with Sonia Merli talking on “San Bevignate e San Luca. Colonie monastiche di outremair”. Associazione Culturale Porta S. Susanna, Sala S. Chiara, Via Tornetta 5. Free admission.

On December 29th, January 14th, 21st, 28th and on February 11th at 5.30pm there will be a series of tales from different parts of the world set to music and suitable for children aged between 6 and 9. At ANAM, the Associazione Nazionale Attività Motorie.

Open both to solo singers and groups, the 2012 edition of the Mia Martini European song competition aims to discover new talent. Terni and Perugia will be hosting the admissions from February 12th to 19th at the Musical Academy of Terni in Via G. Benucci 19/21 and the Musical Academy of Perugia in Via Orazio Tramontani 52, Ponte San Giovanni.

On February 17th at 5pm in the Teatro Morlacchi there will be a presentaiton of the comic strip book Le molte vite del Bartoccio, maschera perugina, with its two authors Renzo Zuccherini and Marco Vergoni.

On February 15th at 5pm in the foyer of the Teatro Morlacchi there will be a guided tour of the theatre with Simonetta Innamorati, to view the collection of marionettes belonging to Anna Maria Guardabassi.

The Amici della Lirica season continues on February 15th at 4pm in Via del Verzaro 20 with a screening of Nino Rota's Il cappello di paglia.

Originally conceived as a comical intermezzo for a performance at the Teatro San Bartolomeo of Naples in 1733 in honour of Empress Maria Christina, the piece became so popular that it was expanded into a two-act piece.
